The 25 paise coins mentioned as ‘रुपये का चौथा भाग’. These coins were made of nickel and 2.5 grams of weight. From 1964 to 1968 these 25 paise coins started to be called ’25 paise’ instead of ‘Naye paise’. Before 1957 these 25 paise coins were known as 1/4 Rupee or चार आना because of the anna monetary system.

These coins are the successor of the previous 4 anna or 1/4 rupee coins which were issued in the anna monetary system from 1950 to 1956. Now the size has also been reduced a little bit from the previous coins. These new coins are now mentioned as ’25 naye paise’ from 1957 to 1963. Later the नये पैसे word was removed and now from 1964, these are called only 25 पैसे. At the bottom of the coin, you can see the grain earrings, and the year of the coin is mentioned with the mintmark. These coins were minted in Bombay and Calcutta mints only.
On the obverse side of the coin, the Ashoka pillar with India and Bharat is mentioned.
