These coins, featuring a cross symbol, are known as Unity in Diversity coins. They were issued to showcase India’s diversity. However, their minting was discontinued after a controversy. The last issuance of these coins was in 2007.
Minting Information
These coins were minted at all four Indian mints:
- Mumbai
- Kolkata
- Hyderabad
- Noida
A cross-like mark can be seen on the coins, symbolizing unity in diversity. The coins also feature “दो रूपये” in Hindi and “TWO RUPEES” in English.
Design Details
On one side of the coin, Satyameva Jayate is engraved in small letters, just below the Ashoka Pillar in the center. The numeral “2” is inscribed in English, and the upper part displays the words भारत (in Hindi) and INDIA (in English).
At the bottom, the year of minting is visible, along with the mint mark.
